I’ve learned a few tips on how to stop being sad or moody. If you are clinically depressed, these tips are not going to make much difference, but if you use them along with what your doctor tells you – who knows. Anyway:
1. Sun. It is proven that the less sun you get, the more depressed you feel. This is why most people feel down when the weather is gloomy, and in winder, too. Of course, you can’t change the weather and make clouds go away but you can enjoy the sun when the weather is good. If you simply stay at home, it will not help. If it’s summer, go read in a park, if it’s winter, go for a walk. If you can’t get out, enjoy weather sitting on a porch or a balcony. If you have a chance to go on vacation, do. Even if you have no one to go with. Trust me, human company is overrated, you will be surprised how much you can enjoy the beach alone or in a company of a good book.

2. Read fantasy and science fiction. Vivid and beautiful worlds that you create in your mind can make you forget about everything. Read H. G. Wells, J. K. Rowling, J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, A. Rice.
3. When you feel blue try exercising instead of eating chocolate, the effect is the same, plus – it is good for health. Exercises don’t have to be difficult. The thing is: no one can be sad when they exercise, it is not an assumption, it is a known fact. Try it.
4. Quit listening to whiny music or any slow songs for that matter. Listen to something like Bob Marley or Hot Chip. And don’t watch movies that make you wanna kill yourself: about injustice, rapes, murders and etc.
5. Call your parents, siblings or cousins and socialize with them. Most of your friends, boyfriends or girlfriends are likely to disappear from your life and family will remain. If someone can make you feel loved, it’s them.
6. Get a hobby, it can be anything you want. Fall bums you out? Go buy a canvas and brushes and paint it. Painting is one of the best ways to deal with your emotions. Paint something beautiful to bring up your mood, or paint something ugly to let out your anger and frustration so you don’t take it out on your loved ones. You can choose the simplest and the most obvious hobby of them all: cooking and baking.
I don’t know whether or not it’s of a big help, but these tips do help me to get spirits up and be a better me!
